At least 21 people have lost their lives in a devastating motor accident involving a Toyota Hummer bus and a trailer along the Zaria–Kano highway in Kano State.
The fatal crash occurred at about 8:23 a.m. on Sunday near Kasuwar Dogo in the Dakatsalle area of Kano. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident involved a DAF trailer with registration number GWL 422 ZE and a Toyota Hummer Bus marked KMC 171 YM.
FRSC Sector Commander in Kano, Corps Commander MB Bature, confirmed that 24 individuals were involved in the crash. “Twenty-one persons lost their lives, while three sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Bature said.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC attribute the crash to a route violation by the bus driver, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming trailer. The impact of the crash ignited a fire that engulfed both vehicles, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.
Emergency responders from the FRSC, the Federal and State Fire Services, and the Nigeria Police worked together to recover the remains of the victims. The charred bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Nassarawa Hospital Mortuary, while the injured are currently receiving treatment at Garun Malam General Hospital.
The road has since been cleared, and normal traffic flow restored, thanks to the swift intervention of the FRSC tow truck team and security agencies.
