The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Oyewole Olowomojuore, popularly known as Baba Gebu.

Grassroots Parrot reports that actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod broke the sad news in an emotional post shared via his Instagram page on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Afod expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the seasoned actor, describing him as a “great legend” who left an indelible mark on Yoruba cinema.

He wrote:

“It saddens my heart as I announce the passing away of our great legend, a great actor who passed away this evening after a brief illness… BABA GEBU, may your soul rest in peace.”

Baba Gebu reportedly passed away after battling an undisclosed illness. His death marks another painful loss in the Yoruba film industry, where he was widely respected for his talent, humility, and decades-long contribution to storytelling and culture.

The late actor had an illustrious career spanning several decades, featuring in numerous Yoruba-language productions that earned him a devoted fan base across Nigeria and beyond.

In 2024, Baba Gebu opened up about the passing of his wife, revealing that returning to acting helped him cope with grief and avoid depression. His resilience and passion for the craft earned him admiration from many of his colleagues, including Afod, who supported him through his challenges.

Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and Nollywood stars who described Baba Gebu as a “father figure” and “pillar of Yoruba cinema.”
