Unknown gunmen on Tuesday stormed the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, causing destruction and sparking concern over the safety of the lawmaker and her family.

Grassroots Parrot gathered that eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers, numbering at least three, arrived around 1:00 a.m. wielding cutlasses and firearms. They reportedly damaged parts of the building, smashed windows, and created panic in the usually quiet neighbourhood.

Following the attack, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja, promptly alerted security authorities. Officers from the Okehi Police Division responded swiftly and arrived at the scene shortly after the alert.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, police say no injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. A preliminary investigation has since been launched to uncover those behind the incident.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has yet to issue an official statement.

However, the incident comes amid heightened public attention on the senator following her recent sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Security analysts, including counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama, say the police are still working to determine the attackers’ motive and are intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible.
