The Kano State Police Command has issued a stern warning to minors operating commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep or Adaidaita Sahu, within the state capital.

In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the caution follows the recording of 16 serious accidents in August 2025 involving underage riders, which led to injuries and property damage.

Kiyawa stated that any minor found driving a tricycle will be arrested and prosecuted, adding that parents and guardians could also face legal consequences if they allow their children to engage in the practice.

“To ensure compliance, a special enforcement team has been deployed to monitor traffic violations,” he said, urging residents to report underage tricycle operators or reckless driving to the nearest police station or via the emergency numbers 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.

The police said the clampdown aims to curb the surge in road accidents and improve public safety across the metropolis.
