The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in possession of counterfeit currencies totaling ₦129,542,823,000, including US Dollars, CFA Francs, and Naira.

Disclosing this on Sunday, December 10, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Kiyawa, revealed the breakdown of the fake currencies as $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and ₦1,443,000.

“These counterfeit currencies amounting to a total of N129.5 billion were recovered. The individuals arrested include two in possession of the fake money and one from whom the money was stolen.

They are currently assisting in investigations to trace the source of the counterfeit notes,” Kiyawa stated.

The arrests are part of an ongoing operation by the police, which also led to the recovery of other items, including: Six live ammunition, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, and three parcels containing 175 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.

Police operatives also seized 250 diazepam tablets, 278 sheep, and seven cattle.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the production and circulation of the counterfeit currencies.
