The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux belonging to the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, and arrested a suspect said to be a Government House driver.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, revealing that the thieves gained access to the Kano Government House through Gate 4 before sneaking away with the vehicle.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect, Ya’u Inuwa, aged 50, who serves as a permanent driver in the Government House, has confessed to conspiring with two others to steal the vehicle.

“The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen white Toyota Hilux attached to the Governor’s Advance Teams, which was reported missing on November 11, 2025,” Kiyawa said in a statement.

According to the police, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately ordered a lockdown of all entry and exit points across Kano and launched a manhunt for the culprits.

Following a swift, intelligence-led operation, officers arrested Inuwa and recovered the Hilux at Unguwa Uku, Yan Awaki Quarters in Kano. The vehicle is now in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two other suspects still at large.

The Police Command praised the swift action of Government House officials and assured the public that the case is under thorough investigation.

“Further developments will be communicated as the investigation unfolds,” Kiyawa added.
