The Kano State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor of the state, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, by serving him a formal notice to respond to allegations said to constitute impeachable offences.

The notice was presented during a special plenary session held on Thursday, where lawmakers outlined accusations including gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.

Speaking with journalists after the session, the House Majority Leader, Lawan Husaini, confirmed that he formally presented the impeachment notice on the floor of the Assembly.

According to him, the notice was endorsed by 38 members of the House, indicating substantial legislative backing for the move.

Husaini explained that following the service of the notice, the deputy governor has a constitutional window of two weeks to respond to the allegations and defend himself before the Assembly proceeds with the next stage of the impeachment process.

The development signals a significant political shift within the state’s leadership structure and could trigger further legislative actions depending on the deputy governor’s response and the Assembly’s subsequent deliberations.
