The attack occurred on Thursday night around 8 p.m. when the assailants stormed the community. A local source said four men on two motorcycles entered the monarch’s residence and opened fire, killing him and members of his family.
The source added that the attackers initially greeted residents in the local dialect, raising no suspicion before carrying out the attack, which lasted about 20 minutes.
They later moved to a nearby house, where two more people were killed, while one person sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident, the local government chairman, Melvin Ejeh, said five people were killed and one injured, adding that police had visited the scene.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to receive an official report on the incident.
