In a strategic move to improve transportation and student welfare, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, inaugurated an on-campus tricycle service at the university’s New Campus on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

Grassroots Parrot learnt that the initiative is designed to offer students and staff a safer and more convenient mode of transport, addressing the difficulties posed by the vast distances between faculties and departments.

The launch event was attended by key university officials, including the Registrar, Haruna Aliyu; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Haruna Musa; University Librarian, Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas; Head of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba; and Professor Yakubu Magaji Azare.

Speaking at the event, Professor Abbas reaffirmed BUK’s dedication to priortize the student welfare.

“This initiative is part of our broader effort to enhance security and convenience for our students. We are committed to making our campuses not only academically stimulating but also comfortable and safe for everyone,” Professor Abbas stated.

He assured the university community that the tricycles would be operated under strict monitoring and evaluation, with trained drivers following best practices.

The service will run daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. He also encouraged students to utilize the service responsibly and noted that more tricycles would be introduced as demand increases.

This development follows the university’s February 2025 ban on motorcycles due to security concerns. The introduction of tricycles offers a safer and more organized alternative, ensuring smooth movement across the expansive campus while upholding the institution’s standards of safety and order.
