Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has been reported dead, according to Sahara Reporters, which claimed he passed away in a London hospital. However, as of the time of filing this report, no official confirmation has been issued by his family or the Anambra State Government.
Obiano, who governed Anambra from 2014 to 2022, succeeded Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party. He was born on August 8, 1955, and hailed from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
Before his reported death, the former governor had been under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged involvement in a ₦4 billion fraud case, a development that had kept him in the news even after leaving office.
